How Often Should a Pool Be Cleaned in Arizona?

The honest answer for Tucson is weekly, and not because we sell weekly service. Here is the reasoning behind that number.

The Short Answer

An inground pool in Tucson should be serviced once a week, year round. Summer is about chemistry and algae. Fall and winter are about debris, wind and keeping equipment healthy through cooler months when owners stop paying attention.

Every-other-week service is a compromise that works in cooler, wetter climates. In the desert it is how pools end up needing recoveries and acid washes.

What Happens Between Visits

In seven days a Tucson pool loses a meaningful amount of chlorine, drifts upward in pH, collects a layer of dust and starts a film on the walls that you cannot see yet. A weekly visit resets all of that before it compounds.

Stretch that to fourteen days and each of those small changes doubles. The film becomes visible algae. The pH drift becomes scale. The dust becomes a clogged filter.

Why Consistency Beats Intensity

A pool serviced lightly every week stays in better shape than one serviced heavily once a month. Chemicals work best in small regular doses. Surfaces stay clean when they are brushed before anything bonds to them.

It is also simply cheaper. A stable pool uses fewer chemicals over a year than one that swings between neglect and correction, and stable water is easier on pumps, filters and salt cells.

What a Weekly Visit Should Include

Skimming, emptying baskets, brushing walls and tile, vacuuming the floor, testing and balancing chemistry, adding what the pool needs and inspecting equipment. If a visit is only chemicals, it is not a cleaning.

Blue Dolphin Pools does not offer chemical-only service for that reason. Every visit is the full list, followed by a photo and report.

Key Takeaways

  • Weekly service, year round, is the right cadence for Tucson.
  • Small problems double when visits are two weeks apart.
  • Consistent light service is cheaper than periodic recovery.
  • A visit without brushing and vacuuming is not a cleaning.
